Notes from AJC Below: Information from the engineers visit, from this morning 13 June 25 System at site is a Septic Tank , Aeration Unit, and outfall chamber. Arrived site, septic tank at its correct operating level, the aeration unit was making loud water noise, the discharge pipe from the pump in the aeration unit had disconnected from its spreader plate/ distribution head. So, although it is running all effluent has been running back down on top of the pump rather than over the media, noted a tide mark above the media. The outfall chamber was flooded to approx. 500mm above its outlet, with a tide mark in this chamber indicating it floods to approx. 800mm at times of peak flow. The pump discharge pipe was reconnected to the spreader plate above media and the media zone then flooded, suggesting media is so clogged it is virtually watertight and creating another chamber in effect. This has been caused by the outfall being blocked so there is no void between the bottom of the media zone for the effluent to drop out. The outfall was jetted to a distance of approx. 25m until the hose would travel no further, , continued to jet until water supply ran out, the back flow was the consistency of thick slurry. The tanker emptied the aeration unit and then topped up to the required volume of 1000g . this leaves a lot of thick heavy sludge / fat in the bottom of the septic tank . to remove this ,it will need jetting to liquify so it will run to tanker hose for removal. This is part due to the tank never being fully emptied ( 1000g for this site doesnt empty everything, you should allow 2000g each time ) and it goes on getting thicker and harder to remove as on this tank access inside tank is poor for this. Recommendation / remedy 1. To jet outfall chamber with tanker in attendance for as long as necessary for either thick slurry to stop running back or the end located. 2. The media should also be removed and cleaned, so effluent can run through freely A new soakaway may be required at this site.
